Bulgarian Gala Concert Staged at London's Cadogan Hall

London, May 21 (BTA) - A Bulgarian Gala Concert was staged at London's prestigious Cadogan Hall on Friday evening to highlight Bulgaria's future Presidency of the Council of the EU. Culture Minister Vezhdi Rashidov was an official guest at the event, his Ministry reported Saturday.

The concert was held under the Culture Ministry's auspices and prepared by the Bulgarian Cultural Institute in London.

Minister Rashidov addressed the packed hall by saying: "The Bulgarian talent makes the world more beautiful. On the eve of our brightest holiday, May 24 (Day of Slav Letters and Bulgarian Culture and Education), I am proud that the best stages and halls open their doors for the art of Bulgarian artists and performers".

The audience was impressed by the performances of the London Chamber Players, conducted by Ivan Yanakov, the London Bulgarian Choir, The Mystery of the Bulgarian Voices, kaval virtuoso Theodosii Spasov, The Four Pianists (Ivan Yanakov, Jivko Petrov, Angel Zaberski, Georgi Cherkin).

Rashidov presented his Ministry's awards to persons who have helped promote Bulgarian culture in the United Kingdom and who have contributed to bilateral cultural cooperation. The Culture Minister conferred his Ministry's Golden Century Award to British film director and author Tony Palmer and British film critic Phillip Bergson.
