Sofia City Prosecutor Dinev Resigns

Sofia, 30 май (BTA) - Sofia City Prosecutor Hristo Dinev tendered his resignation due to problems with his health, Roumyana Arnaoudova, Spokesperson for the Prosecution Office, told journalists on Monday.

Arnaoudova explained that Dinev resigns as chief of the Sofia City Prosecution Office and not as a prosecutor. Dinev says in his reasoning that he is about to use a two-month sick leave.

The resignation has been filed with the Supreme Judicial Council and will be considered by a prosecutors' college, which would subsequently announce a competition for the post, the Bulgarian National Radio reported.

Dinev was elected as Sofia City Prosecutor in January 2014 in competition with investigator Boyko Atanassov. Atanassov's name appeared in the headlines for criticism levelled at the Prosecutor General. His allegations that a team around the Prosecutor General works only on cases against politicians and
businessmen has prompted an inspection of the Ethic Commission of the Supreme Judicial Council. On his part, last October, the Prosecutor General ordered an inspection of Dinev's team over alleged inefficient control of pre-trial proceedings.
