New Republic Invites Parties to Sign Growth without Corruption Pact

Sofia, February 8 (BTA) - The New Republic supra-party right union New Republic Wednesday invited the other political forces with which it will participate in the next National Assembly to sign a Growth without Corruption Pact, the union said.

The pact features five concrete commitments on which the parties should agree to achieve a joint majority in the next Parliament.

New Republic proposes the introduction of the so-called Romanian model in prosecution, leaving 50 per cent of the income tax and corporate tax in municipalities, reduction of VAT for books, medicines and staple foods to 9 per cent, as well as a constitutional ban on cutting down century-old forests and logging in national parks. The leaders of New Republic are ready to give up their immunity as candidate MPs.

The proposal was entended to all political parties.

The Chairman of New Republic, Radan Kanev, has declared that the parties are expected to respond to the invitation by the beginning of next week.

"Let us not presume that no party will not respond. If, however, this happens, on Monday or Tuesday we shall announce in what way we shall turn to the Bulgarian citizens for direct support of the pact. Now we have turned to the parties which are running in the elections," Kanev said.
