In a declaration during the new session of the National Assembly on Wednesday,  Vazrazhdane leader Kostadin Kostadinov called on the MPs to donate funds for the defence of Milan Dimitrov in the USA.

"Since this National Assembly has less than three weeks to live, we will speak in our declaration not about the State, but about one person from the State," Kostadiniov pointed out.

"A Bulgarian citizen has been rotting in foreign prisons for almost two years, a year and a half in a Greek prison and more than a month in a US prison. The Bulgarian citizen's name is Milan Dimitrov, he is practically a hostage of a foreign country, the USA," said the Vazrazhdane leader. The trial against Milan Dimitrov is purely political, he added.

Kostadinov pointed out that his party received not a polite, but a very firm refusal when they asked the Bulgarian State, in the form of Dimitar Glavchev's government, to commit to the protection of Milan Dimitrov.

Kostadinov said that after the state's refusal to engage, Vazrazhdane contacted Bulgarian emigrants in the US, who found a good lawyer. The amount for the lawyer's fee is USD 150,000, which is BGN 265,000, he added, noting that that Vazrazhdane have started a donation campaign and so far BGN 41,000 BGN have been collected, which is equivalent to BGN 22,000 dollars.

Dimitrov has been accused of trading in illegal electronic components. Varzazhdane pointed out that these were not on the list of prohibited electronic components for military purposes, as they were not suitable for military purposes. The  specific case is a precedent, since the order for the detention of Dimitrov was based on the Interpol bulletin, in which Bulgaria is not included, which is why the Bulgarian was detained abroad. Vazrazhdane sees in this an opportunity for similar precedents to become a standard practice and a danger for every Bulgarian to be arrested when going abroad without knowing that they are wanted, due to the fact that Bulgaria is deliberately not included in the list of countries receiving the relevant bulletin, explained the party on its website.
