Truck traffic at the Danube Bridge border checkpoint near Ruse is very intense on Wednesday.

Border officials said that a total of 2,906 trucks passed through the Ruse-Giurgiu Danube Bridge in both directions over the last 24 hours, of which 1,375 entered Bulgaria, while 1,531 left the country.

The car traffic at the border checkpoint is normal, as drivers have to wait between five and ten minutes to cross the bridge. Border officials are urging drivers to obey the orders and regulations, including the restriction on overtaking on the bridge. Due to such violations, five drivers have already been fined since Monday.

On July 10, Bulgaria started a major overhaul of the Bulgarian section of the 70-year-old Danube Bridge, which is why the traffic is carried out in only one lane and Border Police officers regulate the traffic in the area of construction activities.
