The Cabinet Wednesday approved Iliana Ivanova as the Bulgarian candidate for Member of the European Court of Auditors in the 2025-2030 period, the government information service said.

The General Secretariat of the EU Council has notified Bulgaria that the term of the current Bulgarian Member of the European Court of Auditors expires on December 31 and Sofia has until September 30 to nominate a candidate so as to ensure time for consultations with the European Parliament.

Ivanova was Member of the European Court of Auditors in various positions between 2013 and 2023, the press release said.

Iliana Ivanova, who is responsible for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth in the first Von der Leyen Commission, wrote in her Facebook profile in late August that she cannot stay on in the new European Commission for personal reasons. "I have been immensely honoured and privileged to serve as a commissioner in the last year of the term of the current European Commission," she said.
