Ukrainian children with granted temporary protection status in Bulgaria are attending a 14-day Bulgarian language course at the Planetarium in Varna.

The 40 children will visit Bulgarian schools for the first time in 2024 and will be in the fourth and fifth grades, said their teacher, Krasimira Lyubcheva. She noted that her students already have a little knowledge of the Bulgarian language, which they have picked up from communicating with the local people. The children told BTA that they like Bulgaria and that the course is fun, but what they like most in Varna is the sea.

The course is financed by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, with the support of the Education Ministry, the Regional Education Directorate and Varna Municipality.

The Municipal Children's Complex in Varna also organizes Bulgarian language courses for Ukrainian children in the 1st to 4th grade, with the aim to help children adapt to the Bulgarian education system.
