"We are actively monitoring the operation of Unit 5 of the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant and the situation with the new fuel. At the moment, there are no indications of problems", said Tsanko Bachiyski, chair of the Bulgarian Nuclear Regulatory Agency, on Wednesday during the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the commissioning of the First Power Unit of the Kozloduy NPP.

Deputy Energy Minister Krassimir Nenov also confirmed that the nuclear power plant's systems are operating safely and within parameters, adding that the project for new capacities of the plant has the full support at the public and political level.

In May, in implementation of its programme for diversification of its nuclear fuel, Kozloduy NPP signed a contract with Westinghouse Electric Sweden AB for the supply of fuel for unit 5.
