US President Trump Congratulates PM Borissov on Third Term at Post

Sofia, May 9 (BTA)- US President Donald J. Trump has congratulated Prime Minister Boyko Borissov on his recent election victory and third term as Prime Minister of Bulgaria, the government's information service said on Tuesday.

"This critical time for Bulgaria requires strong, decisive leadership. I look forward to working with you in enhancing our bilateral partnership and advancing our shared goals as Allies and friends, while deepening the ties between the American and Bulgarian people.

"I greatly appreciate Bulgaria's contributions in our missions together: as Allies standing shoulder to shoulder in Afghanistan and Kosovo and as coalition partners fighting to destroy ISIS. I am also grateful for your extensive preparations to host NATO's largest exercise in Europe this year. I especially welcome Bulgaria's plans to strengthen and modernize your defence capabilities, critical to our work together in meeting the pressing challenges facing our Alliance, including terrorism and migration.

"Our goal of protecting the security, freedom, and prosperity of our people rests on the strongest of foundations: our shared commitment to the strength of our democratic institutions and the rule of law. While the challenges before us are considerable, I am confident these enduring values will help marshal both the unity and capabilities to secure the future our nations deserve," reads Trump's letter.
