Constitutional judge Atanas Semov said Thursday that numerous violations and mistakes were found in a huge number of polling stations in the case challenging the legitimacy of the early parliamentary elections held on October 27, 2024. "Over 2,200 polling stations were checked based on a large amount of evidence and the stations that led to the court's decision were far from 7," he told bTV, commending on Constitutional Court's ruling that 16 MPs in the 51st National Assembly were unlawfully elected.
He added that almost every polling station was found to have number of votes for different parties which does not correspond to the tallied one.
"So ultimately 16 MP seats are affected, the electoral barrier has been changed - the 4% is now a smaller number due to a lack of ballots being found compared to what was reported in October and based on that the Central Election Commission will determine which formation breaks the 4% barrier, how many MPs it enters with, what shifts occur in the other parliamentary groups," Semov added.
He said that this is not the first such case but it is the first time when it has such big proportions, affecting 16 MP seats.
Semov stressed that the political parties should be held responsible for the quality of the work of the members of the section election commissions (SECs) proposed by them and the huge number of mistakes they made.
