National Assembly Chair Nataliya Kiselova has conferred with the Bulgarian representative to the European Court of Auditors, Iliana Ivanova, the Parliament's press service said on Thursday. The sides discussed issues related to public finance accountability and the legislative steps the National Assembly is taking to speed up the delayed implementation of the Recovery and Resilience Facility.
Kiselova said that Parliament’s efforts are currently focused on adopting the 2025 state budget bill. “This is an extremely important bill, and any delays in its adoption impact the work of state institutions and the Bulgarian public,” she added. Efforts are being made to meet the expectations of the European partners and to guarantee Bulgaria receives funding under the Recovery and Resilience Plan, Kiselova said.
Kiselova congratulated Iliana Ivanova on her appointment as a member of the European Court of Auditors, effective January 1, 2025, and said that European citizens rely on the institution to ensure EU funds are spent legally.
Ivanova said that Bulgaria is relatively behind in absorbing EU budget funds. “In my recent meetings, I have received assurances that efforts are being made to improve the absorption of funds related to the Recovery and Resilience Plan and cohesion policy. Stability in each EU Member State is essential to addressing the growing challenges Europe faces, she said.
