site.btaBulgaria’s Foreign Ministry Recommends Careful Planning of Trips to Italy Due to National Transport Strike

Due to a national transport strike in Italy the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommends that Bulgarian citizens, temporarily or permanently residing on Italian territory, plan their trips carefully. When possible, Bulgarian citizens should plan alternative routes and transportation means. They should carefully monitor the updated information of flight and train schedules.  

A national 24-hour strike of ground airport operations, including baggage handling, organized by the FLAI Trasporti e Servizi trade union, has been scheduled to take place on March 16. The strike will affect all Italian airports. Hourly strike action has also been planned by employees of Techno Sky, a company that specializes in the support of technological air traffic control systems in Italy. On March 18, the employees of SEA Prime at Milan’s Linate airport will join the regional 24-hour strike action.

The USB trade union plans a national strike of the employees of passenger and freight rail transport in Italy. The strike will start at 9 p.m. on March 18 and end at 8:59 pm. on March 19, 2025.

It is expected that the strike will seriously affect travel over the entire territory of the country, the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry warned.

Bulgarian citizens in Italy can turn to the Bulgarian Embassy in Rome, if they need any help.

On March 8 there was another national transport strike which seriously affected travel around the country.
