The Eurogroup supports Bulgaria's efforts to adopt the euro as its national currency, based on the agreed criteria to be assessed this spring. This is what Eurogroup President Paschal Donohoe writes in a letter to European Council President Antonio Costa. "We commend Bulgaria's commitment and encourage further steps to ensure sustainable convergence," the letter, posted on the European Council's website, said.

Bulgaria is progressing on its plan to adopt the euro in 2026 and has requested the European Commission and the European Central Bank to prepare the assessment of its convergence with the euro area, in line with the euro area accession process, Donohoe noted.
