The Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) for Bulgaria is submitting a proposal to the National Assembly to repeal its decision to lift the ban on the impost of certain products from Ukraine, BSP leader Korenliya Ninova said Wednesday.

Bulgaria should do it unilaterally, as Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Croatia have done, she added. According to Ninova, it is obvious that the European leaders are starting to get smarter, while the Bulgarian government is getting more and more stupid. It is evident that this sector in both Europe and Bulgaria is key and those who are responsible statesmen are making a decision to protect their native economies and production, Ninova said.

In her words, there is a need for time to calmly discuss all the issues. The issue is not only about the import of sunflower, but also about redistribution of subsidies to fruit and vegetables, milk and meat, to protect small and medium producers, Ninova said.

Asked for what period her party wants the ban imposed, Ninova said they have not set one. The National Assembly can always take a decision back when the problems are solved, she added.

She specified that the goods the ban would apply to are grain, fruit and vegetables, milk and meat, and honey.
