Bulgarian Deputy Foreign Minister Elena Shekerletova supported the priorities of the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union (January-June 2025) in a statement she made during a General Affairs Council meeting in Brussels on Tuesday, the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry reported.
The bloc's ministers responsible for EU affairs were briefed on the Polish EU Presidency's priorities with a focus on the policies within the competence of the General Affairs Council.
Poland took over for the second time the rotating EU Presidency on January 1. The Presidency motto is "Security, Europe!" It will work in seven strategic areas: external security, internal security and security of information, economy, energy, food and health.
Shekerletova welcomed the emphasis on strengthening and ensuring European security in all its dimensions. Among the most important matters she singled out migration, enlargement, the single market, security of energy supplies and the planning of the next multiannual financial framework.
The General Affairs Council discussed the rule-of-law country reports on another group of four member states: Hungary, Portugal, Romania and Slovenia.
