site.btaMRF-New Beginning Leader Peevski: Political Immunities and Deals Define New Cabinet

Delyan Peevski, leader of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF)-New Beginning, told journalists in Parliament on Thursday that the Zhelyazkov cabinet represented what he described as a coalition of immunities.

"Something very shameful occurred at the council meeting today,” Peevski said, referring to the meeting of the floor leaders and Parliament Chair and Deputy Chairs. Peevski explained that he raised the issue of the absence of a commission on MP immunities and why it was not being brought before the floor. 

He said that the response of the parliament deputy chair in charge of this council was that he needed to wait just a little longer. 

Following the meeting, Peevski said he approached her alongside the leadership of the MRF-New Beginning parliamentary group and questioned her. "Why are you violating the law? Why are you covering this up?" Peevski alleged her response was that he needed to wait until the cabinet voting was done.

"This is a coalition of immunities, the deal is to protect the derebeys [from Turkish - feudal lords] and not strip them of their immunities," Peevski commented.

"The MRF-New Beginning parliamentary group will work for the people. What does opposition even mean, when we must all work for the people?" he said. "The others I see in opposition are a tragedy. We cannot coexist with the lapdogs and stacks of cash", Peevski said, supposedly referring to Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) Kiril Petkov and President Rumen Radev.

“This is why I clearly stated—our goal was to have elections, because today something very unpleasant has finally emerged," Peevski said. "Congratulations to [GERB leader] Borissov for gathering those who have denied him for years, insulted him, said all sorts of nasty things, and arrested him. All those who are now his partners have denounced and rejected him. These same people now heap him with praise," Peevski added.
