A 29-year-old man was arrested for growing cannabis in an area near the southern village of Perunika, said the press centre of the Regional Directorate of the interior Ministry in Kardzhali on Tuesday.

The plantation were discovered during a specialized police operation and five plants over 2 metres in height were seized. The owner of the cultivated cannabis was detained at a time when he was watering the beds located next to a micro-dam. Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated against the detained man for illegal cultivation of narcotic plants.

In the beginning of August, police officers also found cannabis planted in an area near the southern village of Varbovo, the Regional Directorate of the Interior Ministry in Smolyan said. In a house in the village belonging to a British citizen, 38.8 grams of marijuana were found and seized. The cannabis uprooted and seized consisted of 12 stalks with a total weight of 1,390 kg. Pre-trial proceedings have also been initiated in this case.
