Over 4,000 members and supporters of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) in Targovishte Region petitioned to withdraw confidence from MRF Deputy Chair Dzheyhan Ibryamov, the MRF local chapter said in a post on the social network Facebook on Monday.

MRF Targovishte’s youth structure chair Bulent Beytulla told a BTA reporter that the signatures were collected within two days - Sunday and Monday. The idea is to prove that the decisions in the Regional Council reflect the opinions of all municipal structures, members and activists, he added.

The petition is in support of a decision taken by the MRF local chapter in Targovishte on July 3, by which the organization withdrew its confidence from Ibryamov after he abstained in a plenary vote on a government proposed by GERB-UDF and thus defied the instructions of one of the two MRF leaders, Delyan Peevski, to back the government. The other leader, Dzhevdet Chakarov, voted against the proposed government and in line with the instructions of MRF Honorary Chair Ahmed Dogan. On July 4, the MRF parliamentary group expelled MP Ibryamov. Before his expulsion from the parliamentary group, Ibryamov stated that he would remain an independent MP "because he has a responsibility to the voters of the region and to the entire Bulgarian people".
