Police from the Sofia Directorate of the Interior and gendarmerie officers are patrolling in central Sofia from Saturday afternoon, the Interior Ministry said. Police presence was strengthened in the wake of incidents in the last few days.
The Sofia Directorate of the Interior is investigating an incident which took place in the central Vitosha Boulevard on Friday evening. The police were called to the scene of a fight between Bulgarians and foreigners where they found four young men, who said they had been assaulted by a group of men and one of them had his mobile stolen. Two of the victims, aged 19, were taken to hospital for examination and were released later.
Mobile police units will control the area around the refugee centre in Sofia's district of Ovcha Kupel where one person was lightly injured during a fight between refugees on Friday.
