The first snow of 2024 has fallen in Romania, local media reported on Monday. A blanket of snow accumulated on Sunday in Sureanu Mountains in Alba County, as well as in the resort area of ​​Predeal in Brasov County, with a temperature of minus 4.4C measured there.

A yellow code for blizzards is in effect for the counties of Prahova, Buzau, Vrancea, Brasov and Covasna, with wind gusts expected to reach speeds of 55 km/h. Meteorologists do not rule out snow falling in the Romanian capital of Bucharest as well.

Due to the bad weather, the movement of vehicles on the Transalpina mountain highway between Ranca and Curpat has been suspended, said the National Road Infrastructure Management Company.
