site.btaWe Will Submit Budget to Stabilize Public Finances, PM Zhelyazkov Says
We will submit a budget, which I would call a budget of stabilisation of public finances, said Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov at the Council of Ministers briefing on Wednesday.
"I have the full support and confidence of GERB leader Boyko Borissov that GERB will stand solidly behind this budget, in view of the goals we have set in the GERB programme, but also in the programme for the management of the government", Zhelyazkov said. "Namely, meeting the criteria for accession into the euro area from January 1, 2026. This support gives us confidence that we will be able to get backing from the coalition partners as well".
The PM expressed his gratitude of the position of Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) in support of the submitted budget, along with the set objectives. "This support is important for Bulgaria to continue firmly on its European development path", he said.
Rosen Zhelyazkov said that the specific measures in the budget will be announced after they receive approval from the coalition partners and that they are currently being discussed with BSP - United Left and There is Such a People (TISP).
Ahead of Wednesday's cabinet meeting, Finance Minister Temenuzhka Petkova said that BGN 348 million had entered the Defence Ministry's budget at the end of January 2025, which would improve the ministry's and the state's budget balance. These funds were not requested in the forecasts of December 2024 and January 2025.
"The receipt of these funds of BGN 348 million marks an improvement in the budget balance both at the level of the state budget and the consolidated fiscal programme", the finance minister said.
Defence Minister Atanas Zapryanov explained that the funds are under two contracts with Denmark and were received in December 2024 and January 2025.
