Pupils at Taraclia’s Ivan Vazov lyceum have released the third issue of their Bulgarian-language school newspaper, Inzov News. "The newspaper does not only provide pupils with a platform to share their opinions, but also serves as a unique educational tool, helping them develop their creative and professional skills," Nina Sokolenko, a Bulgarian language and literature teacher and co-editor of Inzov News, has told BTA.
The idea for the newspaper was first suggested by Ivan Duminika, head of the interethnic relations policies service at the Education and Research Ministry, during a meeting of the regional association of Bulgarian language teachers, Sokolenko said. The editorial team consists of five seventh-grade pupils, guided by Bulgarian language teachers, she added.
The main purpose of the newspaper is not only to enhance pupils’ knowledge of Bulgarian language and history, but also to promote the traditions and culture of the Bessarabian Bulgarians among pupils and their parents, Sokolenko said. "It also provides a great opportunity for pupils to discuss topics they consider important and showcase their talents in poetry, art, journalism, and photography," she noted.
Available exclusively in digital format, the newspaper is created using the online graphic design tool Canvas and is shared with school groups. Its regular sections feature monthly observances, school news, topics of interest to pupils, works by young poets and artists.
The newspaper’s next issue is coming out at the end of February. It will feature stories on notable figures such as Vasil Levski and Mihai Eminescu, and will focus on the feast day of St. Tryphon, patron saint of winemakers and vine-growers, and Valentine's Day, Sokolenko said.
The Inzov News newspaper not only helps raise pupils’ awareness about their history and culture, but also helps them develop teamwork skills, responsibility, creativity and the ability to express their opinions in a well-reasoned manner.
