A big international freeride three-star event, the Freeride World Tour Qualifier, a qualifying round of the Freeride World Tour world series, will be held in Bansko, Southeastern Bulgaria, between March 21 to 23. This will be the fourth consecutive year that the Bulgarian resort has hosted a competition of this rank, the organizers said on Monday.
Nearly 150 athletes from over 20 nations are expected to participate in the competition. For the second consecutive year, juniors will also participate. They will compete for points in the three-star Freeride World Tour Junior on the weekend of March 14-16. As always, the competition will be in four main categories: skiing and snowboarding (men and women). The run will begin on Todorka peak (2,746 m), with a vertical drop of 350-400 m, and a descent length of 800-1000 m.
This year, six certified judges, divided into two panels for the competition for men and women, of which two international ones, will evaluate the performance of the participants.
The highest fan zone made in Bulgaria will be set up for the event, right next to the upper station of the lifts Plato and Banderitsa 2 at 2,550 m above sea level.
