Most Turks believe that no political force in the country is capable of solving its problems, according to a poll conducted by the ASAL polling agency. This sentiment is shared by 37.9% of respondents.
The poll was conducted in mid-January among 1,800 Turkish citizens aged 18 and older, with a good balance of male and female respondents.
Despite the general distrust in political entities, 21.5% of respondents identified the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) as the only party capable of addressing the country’s challenges. Sixteen per cent believed the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) was best suited for the task, 3.5% of respondents trusted the pro-Kurdish Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party, 3% the Nationalist Movement Party, and 2% the Good Party, while another 9.8% were unsure.
When asked about Turkiye’s most pressing issue, 65.5% pointed to the economy, 5.2% cited unemployment, and 5% said irregularities in the justice system. Migration emerged as the top concern in the responses of 3.9% of respondents, and 2% considered terrorism the most serious problem.
The poll also revealed that Ankara Mayor Mansur Yavas of the Republican People's Party is the most popular politician in Turkiye with 19.5% support. He is followed by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan (17.2%), Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu of CHP (15.3%), CHP leader Ozgur Ozel (6.3%), and Nationalist Movement Party leader Devlet Bahceli (3.8%).
