site.btaBulgarian Nationals in Syria Urged to Stay In Their Homes until Security Situation Returns to Normal

In light of the severely deteriorated security situation in Syria, Bulgaria’s Foreign Ministry has urged Bulgarian nationals in the country to remain in their homes until public order is restored. 

The Bulgarian embassy in Damascus is maintaining constant contact with Bulgarian nationals and their family members who have requested assistance to leave Syria, the Ministry said in a press release on Sunday. The security situation is being closely monitored, and the necessary actions will be taken to ensure the safe departure of those who have expressed a desire to leave the country as soon as conditions allow.

According to the embassy, as of 12 a.m. on December 8, 15 Bulgarians and their family members have sought assistance for evacuation. Local authorities report that a total of 71 Bulgarians are long-term or permanent residents of the country.
