site.btaUPDATED Toshko Yordanov: It Will Be Even Harder to Bring Back Common Sense
"Throughout the election campaign, we of There is Such a People said it was time to bring back common sense. With the election over and the actual results in, it is becoming increasingly clear that this will be an increasingly difficult task," Toshko Yordanov said in a statement on behalf of the party during the inaugural session of the newly elected 50th National Assembly.
It is almost impossible to bring back common sense where there is almost none, he added.
"We have all taken an oath to uphold the Constitution and laws of the country and to be guided by the interests of the people, Yordanov said. "Most of you were in the 49th National Assembly, took the same oath and broke it repeatedly - violated the laws as they wanted, changed the Constitution as they wanted and were guided only by their own party interests," he said. That is why, according to Yordanov, we are in this situation - 70% non-voters, extremely low turnout, humiliatingly low legitimacy and trust of this parliament.
The Bulgarian people were right as always, because incompetent actions and even greater inactions have made people feel only disgust and shame, Yordanov added.
According to the MP, the results of the elections have shown that no one can be the sole savior, unifier and decide the agenda of society. No one has the political weight nor the right to give ultimatums to anyone for anything, Yordanov said. He noted that there are parties with more MPs than others, but none has the necessary 121 votes to dominate or to give ultimatums to others. Each party represented in this 50th parliament has the same weight as all the others, he said. He said common sense dictated that when governance was lacking, the country stalled.
There are very real problems ahead of us as a nation. Problems such as the speculatively high prices of foodstuffs, the high price of electricity, the risk that tens of thousands of Bulgarian families employed in the coal industry will lose their jobs because of "some green ideology", demographic problems, problems with Bulgaria's lack of dignity and self-respect as a country in foreign policy, problems in education and the abnormal prices of medicines in healthcare, Yordanov said. In his words, all these real problems have very real solutions, which can be taken and implemented by an expert government, dominated by expertise and professionalism, not by this or that party.
"Each one of us here, each party, if they have common sense, will fulfil their obligations to the Bulgarian citizens, whether they support the future government or not," he believes. hope that this time we fulfil it, Toshko Yordanov added.
