Education Minister Resigns, PM Approved Successor

Sofia, February 1 (BTA) - Education and Science Minister Todor Tanev has submitted his resignation, the government press office said Monday. The resignation comes four days after Prime Minister Boyko Borissov asked Tanev to come down amid systemic problems plaguing his ministry and education in general.

Tanev will be replaced by Deputy Prime Minister Meglena Kuneva, who was nominated last Friday by the Reformist Bloc for the job. It transpired Monday that the Prime Minister has accepted the nomination and will move it for parliamentary approval on Wednesday.

This was announced at a meeting between Borissov and Kuneva on Monday when the two discussed measures to step up the education reforms and adopt an anti-corruption package prepared by Kuneva.

Todor Tanev will  become an advisor to the Prime Minister.
