Interior Ministry Chief Secretary Kostov: Enough Forces Are Present at Border to Counter Illegal Crossing Attempts


Gotse Delchev, Southwest Bulgaria, April 15 (BTA) - There are enough military and police forces, who can counter every attempt at crossing the border illegally, said here late on Friday Interior Ministry Chief Secretary Georgi Kostov.

Forces from the Border Police and the Army are already providing protection at the border with Greece as part of a national specialized police operation, he said. Additional forces have been deployed from Sofia and Pleven (North Bulgaria), he further noted.

The Defence Ministry personnel, engaged in border protection as part of the operation, number 300, 100 of which are deployed to the border with Greece and 200 to the border with Turkey, he explained.

They can counter every attempt at crossing the border illegally and the operation will continue for as long as it is necessary, Kostov said. The first stage is two weeks long and will be extended after that.
