Azerbaijan Draws on Bulgaria's Experience in Justice

Sofia, April 22 (BTA) -  Azerbaijan's Minister of Justice Fikrat Mammadov met with his Bulgarian counterpart Ekaterina Zaharieva in Sofia Thursday, Zaharieva's ministry said in a press release. They held talks within a Council of Europe conference of justice ministers, hosted and co-organized by the Bulgarian Justice Ministry.

Mammadov said that the conference's topic - "Strengthening Judicial Independence and Impartiality as a Pre-condition for the Rule of Law in Council of Europe Member States" - is very important, particularly for young democracies like his country. Azerbaijan studies the experience of western countries in the justice sphere and relies on its good ties with Bulgaria, the press release reads.

The guest recalled that during his previous visit to Bulgaria in 2012, he conferred with National Institute of Justice Director Dragomir Yordanov, got acquainted with the methods of training judges and prosecutors, and introduced some of these as good practices in Azerbaijan.

Mammadov invited Minister Zaharieva to visit Azerbaijan and she accepted the invitation, the press release reads.
