Culture Minister Rashidov Confers with Macedonian Counterpart Kancheska

Skopje/Sofia, October 10 (BTA) - Culture Minister Vezhdi Rashidov conferred on Monday with his Macedonian counterpart Elizabeta Kancheska during his one-day working visit to Macedonia, Rashidov's Ministry said in a press release. The two have discussed the development of cultural ties between the two countries and the successful implementation of the cooperation programme between the two ministries for the period 2015-2017. Rashidov and Kancheska stressed the good cooperation within various initiatives held under UNESCO's auspices, as well as the successful cooperation between the two countries' cultural information centres.

Minister Kancheska congratulated Rashidov on his decision to move the Bulgarian cultural information centre in Skopje to a new building in the city's centre. The two also agreed about Rashidov's idea to mark the opening of the new halls with a joint exhibition by young painters from Bulgaria and Macedonia in 2017.

Rashidov proposed during the meeting that Bulgaria and Macedonia commemorate the WWI Battle of Kaymakchalan by placing a monument, supported by both countries. The two culture ministers also declared themselves in favour of jointly overcoming the situation, which arose following the destruction of a Bulgarian memorial plaque, dedicated to the battle.
