Environment Ministers of Bulgaria, Azerbaijan Meet
Sofia, October 11 (BTA) - Bulgarian Environment Minister Ivelina Vassileva met here Monday with her counterpart of Azerbaijan, Huseyngulu Baghirov, said Vassileva's Ministry. He leads a delegation visiting here on the invitation of the Environment Ministry and according to a two-year cooperation programme signed in Baku last year.
The aim of the meeting was to establish a joint working group for exchange of good practices and expertise, and to identify potential joint projects.
The two ministers discussed opportunities for enhancing bilateral cooperation in nature protection, including through joint projects and exchange of experts.
They identified the preservation of biodiversity and protected areas, water and waste management, and climate change as areas of shared interest.
Vassileva and Baghirov also visited the University of St. Kliment Ohridski in Sofia and met with Prof. Hristo Pimpirev, the President of the Managing Board of the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute. They discussed opportunities for joint work and academic exchanges, including the sending of Azerbaijani researchers to the Bulgarian Antarctic base on Livingston Island.
Prof. Pimpirev invited the two ministers to visit the Bulgarian base.
