Bulgaria Thanks EC for Provided Border Protection Support

Brussels, October 13 (BTA Correspondent Nikolay Jeliazkov) - Prime Minister Boyko Borissov sent a letter on Wednesday to European Commission (EC) President Jean Claude-Juncker, expressing his gratitude for the Commission's support provided to Bulgaria for dealing with the migrant crisis, the EC reported.

Borissov sees the fact that the European Border and Coast Guard Agency was inaugurated in Bulgaria as an important message of cooperation, mutual trust and responsibility. Bulgaria has always been committed to contributing to the secure and effective management of the common EU external borders, the letter reads. The Prime Minister assures that the financial support awarded by the Commission will be used effectively and transparently to provide the necessary border protection.

"I am personally committed to guarantee that the Bulgarian authorities will do their best in order to achieve better protection for all. I also know that we will continue to work together on the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism, on the accession of the country to the Schengen agreement and the ongoing negotiation for joining the Eurozone," Borissov writes. According to him, only when the above mentioned processes are finalized, will the Bulgarian people be able to enjoy the full benefits and share all the responsibilities of the EU.
