28 Political Parties Get 35,785,000 Leva in State Subsidy in 2015 -  Audit Report

Sofia, January 18 (BTA) - The National Audit Office (NAO) has completed its yearly audit of the financial activities and management of property made available by the state or municipal authorities to political parties for 2015, NAO said on Wednesday.

In 2015, 28 parties received a total of 35,785,000 leva in state subsidies, which constituted the biggest relative share in the funding of their activities. Twenty-two parties used 793 premises state or municipal property, paying 974,000 leva in rent.

The check did not establish violations of the Political Parties Act in the form of the parties' using money from the state subsidies to secure receivables of third parties.

Proceeds from membership fees corresponded to what was reported by the parties, save one, which did not report 1,730 leva from such fees.

Fourteen political parties received donations totalling 921,000 leva. The statements about the origin of donated money exceeding a monthly minimum wage by individuals are uploaded on the websites of the parties.

Five parties generated income and expended financing in connection with the economic activity conducted thereby in compliance with the Political Parties Act.

Nine parties donated a total of 493,000 leva to charities. The money for this came from both the state subsidy and from the parties' own incomes.

The revenue and spending of parties were duly documented and accounted for, in line with the relevant book-keeping requirements.

Nine parties failed to pay their rents for more than three months. Proceedings have started to terminate their lease agreements.

Eleven parties report unpaid rents totalling 83,000 leva, 28,000 leva out of which were paid in 2016.
