Parliament Passes Conclusively Amendments to Road Traffic Act

Sofia, January 18 (BTA) - Bulgaria's Parliament Wednesday passed conclusively amendments to the Road Traffic Act.

The revisions introduce sanctions for entering a road section temporarily closed to traffic due to weather conditions. The new provisions were prompted by incidents that occurred in connection with the severe winter situation, Transport, IT and Communications Committee Chairman Nastimir Ananiev explained.

The MPs inserted a definition of "historic vehicle" in the law: a vehicle which is at least 30 years old, is part of the cultural heritage, and is recognized as a classic car by the Federation Internationale des Vehicules Anciens (FIVA) or by a FIVA-recognized association. "Such vehicles are not in constant operation, they do not need a vignette and third party liability insurance, and are usually taken out once a year for some show or exhibition," Ananiev said.

Last week Parliament adopted other revisions of the Road Traffic Act, resolving that pedestrians will not be held responsible for causing an accident after stepping on a marked pedestrian zebra crossing without due care.
