Outgoing Environment and Water Minister Dispels Fears for Water Supply Problems

Sofia, January 25 (BTA) - Outgoing Environment and Water Minister Ivelina Vassileva Wednesday dispelled concerns about alleged problems with water supply of the population. Speaking during the last weekly meeting of the outgoing government Vassileva said, quoted by the cabinet's information service, that as at the present moment and in the coming months the water supply to the population and the irrigation using water from reservoirs is guaranteed. The Minister also said that the thick snow cover will ensure enough flow to water reservoirs to ensure consumption, while at the same time enough free volume is available in them to take in the water from the snow thaw and the spring high water. Vassileva provided latest data about the quantities of water in reservoirs and the projected snow reserves as water equivalents.

"I feel myself as being part of a play of a theatre of the absurd over the past few days. Only until yesterday, concerns flared up whether reservoirs will overflow and today I hear allegations from the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) that the reservoirs were siphoned and are at dead storage volume. Neither of these is true," Vassileva said.

Outgoing Prime Minister Boyko Borissov for his part is quoted as saying that the BSP have undertaken a policy of scaremongering.
