ABV Expects to Gain Stronger Presence in Next Parliament

Haskovo, Southern Bulgaria, January 28 (BTA) - The new ABV leader, Konstantin Prodanov, expects his party to gain stronger presence in the next National Assembly after the early parliamentary elections two months from now. Speaking in Haskovo on Saturday, Prodanov said this can be accomplished if the centre-left segment of the political spectrum is expanded. The ABV will seek support from leftist-minded, socially sensitive voters who would respond to reasonable messages and embrace efficient solutions, rather than trusting "illusion-mongers."

Prodanov predicted that the ABV may sign a coalition agreement with Movement 21 early next week.

The party's candidates to Parliament will be nominated from the bottom up. Figureheads will not be admitted; the most compelling personalities will be sought, Prodanov said.

Taking a reporter's question, he said the ABV will be able to establish its new image and ideas before the upcoming elections, following the recent change of leadership. "Unrecognizability can be an advantage, though," he noted.

The campaign programme of the ABV for Haskovo Region has three priorities: restoring the Svilengrad Customs, preventing the shutdown of the Administrative Court in Haskovo, and ensuring more even distribution of funding for second- and third-class roads.
