Prosecutor General Tsatsarov, Belgian Federal Prosecutor Van Leeuw Discuss Reform of Belgian Prosecution Service
Brussels, May 18 (BTA) - Prosecutor General Sotir Tsatsarov on Thursday met with Belgian Federal Prosecutor Frederic Van Leeuw. Tsatsarov is visiting Brussels at the invitation of his Belgian counterpart.
Under a cooperation agreement between the two prosecution services the two discussed the ongoing reform of the Belgian federal prosecution, under which the number of prosecutor offices will be reduced. This will save money without reducing the number of prosecutors.
For his part Tsatsarov said that Bulgaria is about to undertake the same reform after a judgment by the Constitutional Court that it does not run counter to the Constitution.
Tsatsarov said that the decentralization of the Bulgarian prosecution services is on the agenda of the judiciary. According to him, such step will boost confidence in the Bulgarian judiciary. Senior prosecutors should issue only written instructions and methodological guidelines for junior prosecutors, said Tsatsarov.
The two paid special attention to cases of terrorism.
