site.btaBulgaria Joins FOEDUS-EOEO Platform for Managing Cross-border Organ Exchanges

August 8 (BTA) - Bulgaria has conducted successful
negotiations and joins the FOEDUS-EOEO IT platform which
provides an important tool for managing cross border organ
exchanges, the Bulgarian Health Ministry said in a press release
 on Thursday.

Ten EU member states are currently members of the platform,
which is financed by the European Commission. France is the
country in the platform which has offered the highest number of
organs, 21, while Italy is the country with the highest number
of transplantations of such organs, 16.

Bulgaria is also conducting active negotiations on organ
exchanges with Eurotransplant and several leading lung
transplantation centres in Germany, Spain, and Austria. The
negotiations were initiated after Austria announced it will no
longer perform lung transplantations on foreign nationals. IG/ZH
