The Veliko Tarnovo University (VTU) and the Seijo University in Tokai signed a one-year cooperation and exchange agreement, said the press centre of the Bulgarian higher education institution on Thursday.
The cooperation will encourage the exchange of bachelor and master students, lecturers, publications, joint research projects and conferences.
At the beginning of the online ceremony VTU Rector Dimitar Dimitrov presented the university and the town of Veliko Tarnovo, emphasizing that the higher education institution has very good traditions in teaching languages, offering specialties in over 20 languages at its Philology Faculty. One of those languages is Japanese, which has been part of VTU for 22 years. Over the years, very good relations have been maintained with several leading Japanese universities, through which student exchanges are carried out, Dimitrov said.
Seijo University's Prof. Ishida Takaki noted that through the agreement and through student exchanges, the two universities are building a bridge of friendship between Bulgaria and Japan.
In November 2022, VTU received a Certificate of Honour from the Japanese Foreign Minister, which was awarded to the Centre for Japanese Language and Culture at the Philology Faculty. With the award, Japan annually expresses its gratitude and respect to individuals and institutions for their contributions and achievements in building and strengthening the friendship and in popularizing the study of Japanese language and culture.
