The regional governor of Shumen Beynur Ahmed resigned on Thursday. Within the working day he will submit his application for dismissal from the post to the Council of Ministers, the press centre of Shumen regional administration said.

The statement specified that Ahmed expects his powers to be terminated, and he will continue to perform his duties until the decision of the Council of Ministers on the appointment of a new Shumen regional governor.

Beynur Ahmed was appointed governor of Shumen region in early July 2024 by a decision of the Council of Ministers. Ahmed, who completed his higher education at Shumen University, has been working at Shumen Municipality for nearly 15 years now. Between 2013 and 2015 he was secretary general of the regional administration.

By a decision of the Council of Ministers, a total of seven new regional governors were appointed then - of the regions of Vratsa, Montana, Razgrad, Smolyan, Stara Zagora, Shumen and Yambol, and by the same decision the incumbents were dismissed.

Earlier on Thursday, Delyan Peevski urged the regional governors of MRF - New Beginning to hand in their resignations, if they want to have a career in the party.
