In 2023, 10.6% of the EU population were unable to keep their home adequately warm, which is an increase by 1.3 percentage points from 2022, show data released by Eurostat on Thursday. The highest shares of people unable to keep their homes adequately warm were observed in Spain and Portugal (both 20.8%), followed by Bulgaria (20.7%).
The lowest shares were observed in Luxembourg (2.1%), Finland (2.6%), and Slovenia (3.6%).
For the first time since data were collected in 2005, Bulgaria is not the EU Member State with the biggest share of people not able to heat their homes adequately, shows a check by BTA in Eurostat's database. Compared to 2022, the share of such people in Bulgaria dropped by 1.8 percentage points in 2023.
