Detained for Bribe
Taking

Pleven, Northern Bulgaria, January 10 (BTA) - An official of the
regional office of the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency in Pleven,
Northern Bulgaria, has been detained for bribe taking, sources
from the Regional Prosecution Office said.

The alert against the person was made by a member of the public
to the Regional Directorate of the Interior Ministry who called
to say that the Food Safety Agency official had demanded money
for issuing a permit for the sale of foods. The official, 48,
was detained on January 9 while taking a bribe of 70 leva.

A summary proceeding has been opened against the official who
admitted he was guilty. If convicted, he may get a prison
sentence of up to six years and a fine of up to 5,000 leva.
