DOST Will Support GERB's Presidential Candidate Tsacheva

Sofia, October 20 (BTA) - DOST leader Lyutvi Mestan on Thursday told a news briefing in Parliament that his party will support GERB's candidate Tsetska Tsacheva in the presidential elections.

Mestan said that GERB hasn't asked for DOST's support.

"If the presidential elections are won by a left-wing candidate, this will pose a risk to Bulgaria's Euro-Atlantic orientation," said Mestan.

He added that by supporting Tsacheva DOST doesn't support GERB but Bulgaria's strategic choice to continue on the path as a NATO and EU member. He said that DOST hadn't discussed with GERB their support for Tsacheva.

DOST doesn't have conditions but expectations from the future president. DOST expect the future head of state to serve as guarantor for the country's Euro-Atlantic development, be an institutional guarantor of the genuine equality of all Bulgarian citizens, speak out when human rights are violated and be an institutional and public leader of debates to overhaul the Constitution and convene a Grand National Assembly.

According to Mestan, the President should take a very clear stance on Russia's annexation of Crimea. He said that sanctions against Russia could be lifted only when Crimea is returned to Ukraine.
