Food Wholesale Prices Practically Level in Mid-October

Sofia, October 23 (BTA) - The food wholesale market index was practically level at 1.296 points this week, compared to 1.295 points a week before, the State Commission on Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets reported. The baseline index value of 1.000 dates from 2005.

Since June, the index has been relatively steady, varying from 1.336 to 1.252 points.

Hothouse tomatoes cheapened by 1.9 per cent during the week to 1.55 leva/kg. Bulgarian hothouse cucumbers appreciated 15.8 per cent to 1.39 leva/kg. Potatoes climbed 3.4 per cent to 0.60 leva/kg wholesale. Green peppers went 8.9 per cent up to 0.98 leva/kg. Red peppers gained 6.1 per cent to 1.05 leva/kg. Carrots soared by 25.3 per cent to 0.94 leva/kg. Cabbages are trading at 0.58 leva/kg.

Apples were selling at 0.96 leva/kg. Lemons plummeted by 15.8 per cent to 1.92 leva/kg. Grapes rose 12.0 per cent to 1.59 leva/kg.

The selling price of cow's white brined cheese was 5.59 leva/kg, and Vitosha kashkaval yellow cheese averaged 9.59 leva/kg. Cooking oil eased 1.0 per cent to 2.07 leva/kg. Minced meat was firm at 4.76 leva/kg. Frozen chicken meat was trading at 3.78 leva/kg. Sugar was trading at 1.56 leva/kg. Type 500 flour edged 0.01 leva up to 0.81 leva/kg. The average price of haricot beans was 3.16 leva/kg. Eggs were selling at 0.17 leva apiece wholesale.
