Growing Number of Complaints Submitted to Commission for Consumer Protection

Rousse, on the Danube, May 5 (BTA) - "Judging from the number of complaints and alerts submitted to the Commission for Consumer Protection (CCP), people are ever more active, which means that they are aware of attempts to be targeted by unfair commercial practices," CCP Chairman Dimiter Margaritov commented here on Friday.

Last year his Commission received over 20,000 complaints and alerts from consumers, which is more than in previous periods. Most of them are well-founded, and more than 70 per cent of them were solved in favour of the submitters.

Since the beginning of 2017, the CCP has received more than 5,000 complaints. If this goes on at the same pace, there will be more than 25,000 alerts by the end of the year.

Margaritov said that active work is underway on a stronger involvement of the non-governmental sector in the CCP's operation.

He added that the time has come to make legislative provisions for the development of the so-called "sharing economy", which almost any consumer uses as a method of buying a product or obtaining a service.

People most often seek the CCP's assistance when they have problems with telecommunications: because of defective telecommunication devices or because of the terms under which the service itself is provided, with household appliances, and with apparel and footwear purchased online. Five or six people annually submit 20-30 alerts each.
