Hikers should be prepared for strong winds in the mountains on Sunday and should be equipped with winter gear despite the warm weather, the Mountain Rescue Service (MRS) of the Bulgarian Red Cross has told BTA.

Temperatures are unusually high for the season, the MRS added.

Two incidents involving hikers were reported over the past 24 hours.

According to the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology, a cold front will move across the country. There will be variable cloud cover and intense rain showers from west to east. Thunderstorms are expected in many areas in the afternoon. A west-northwesterly wind will bring in cold air. Highs will range from 18C and 23C, around 19C in Sofia.
