North Macedonia’s Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski commented on the nightclub tragedy in the town of Kocani on Sunday, saying that “this is a difficult and very sad day for North Macedonia”. “The loss of so many young lives is irreparable, and the pain of the families, relatives and friends is immeasurable,” Mickoski wrote on Facebook.

A total of 59 people died and more than 155 were injured in a fire at a night club in Kocani, Interior Minister Panche Toshkovski said earlier in the day.

Prime Minister Mickoski called on all responsible institutions to take urgent action to help the victims and support the affected families.

“The government is fully mobilized and will do everything necessary to deal with the aftermath and establish the causes of the tragedy,” he wrote. “In these times of deep sadness, when our hearts are heavy with pain over this terrible tragedy, I call for unity, solidarity, humanity, and responsibility,” Mickoski said.

He also announced that he would make a statement to the public later today with more information on the steps being taken, after a detailed review of the circumstances.
