site.btaFood Price Index Up by Nearly 1% in One Week


The market index for wholesale food prices in Bulgaria rose by 0.99 to 2.346 points in the past week, according to the latest data from the State Commission for Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets. Last week, the index stood at 2.323 points. The base level of 1 point was set in 2005.
The price of tomatoes went up by 4.5% to BGN 3.19 per kilogramme. Garlic appreciated by 3.7% to BGN 6.60/kg. The biggest drop was recorded in the price of onions, which is down by 7.9% to BGN 1.20/kg. Cabbage depreciated by 6.8% to BGN 1.37/kg, lettuce by 4.9% to BGN 0.98/kg, carrots by 2.6% to BGN 1.23/kg, cucumbers by 2.5% to BGN 3.46/kg, potatoes by 2% to BGN 1.35/kg.
The price of bananas decreased by 0.6% to BGN 2.76/kg. Apples appreciated by 7.7% to BGN 1.92/kg, grapefruits by 4.3% to BGN 2.63/kg, lemons by 4.1% to BGN 2.49/kg, oranges by 2.3% to BGN 2.21/kg, and tangerines by 0.2% to BGN 2.71/kg.
White brined cheese from cow's milk depreciated by 0.2% to BGN 11.32/kg, while yellow kashkaval cheese of the Vitosha type appreciated by 0.1% to BGN 18.08/kg.
The price of yogurt (with a fat content of 3% and over) dropped by 3.5% to BGN 1.30 for 400 grammes, while that of fresh milk (with a fat content of 3%) went up by 1.5% to BGN 2.41 per litre. Butter from cow's milk depreciated by 0.2% to BGN 3.09 per 125 grammes.
The wholesale price of poultry decreased by 0.9% to BGN 6.46/kg, while that of eggs (size M) rose by 4.8% to BGN 0.33.
Rice appreciated by 1.5% to BGN 3.29/kg, while beans depreciated by 1.2% to BGN 4.35/kg. The price of lentils went up by 1.9% to BGN 4.45/kg. The price of sunflower oil dropped by 0.3% to BGN 3.21 per litre, that of flour (type 500) by 4.1% to BGN 1.40/kg. Sugar appreciated by 1.9% to BGN 1.83/kg.
