Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) Chair Atanas Zafirov has sent a letter of condolences to North Macedonia's President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova and Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski following the nightclub tragedy in Kocani, BSP - United Left's press centre said on Sunday.
In his letter Zafirov expresses his deep sympathy to the families and relatives of the victims, stressing that Bulgaria knows the pain of such tragedies and well understands how difficult it is to overcome such a heavy loss.
"At this difficult time, Bulgaria is with you - with its thoughts, its support and its readiness to help," he said in his letter. Zafirov expressed confidence that the spirit and unity of the community will help to overcome this difficult ordeal and that Bulgaria shares the pain of its neighbours.
At least 50 people have died in a nightclub fire in North Macedonia, the Media Information Agency (MIA) reported, citing the country's Interior Ministry. The blaze broke out in the early hours of Sunday in Kocani, a town around 100 km east of the capital, Skopje. Some 1,500 people were said to have been attending a concert. According to local media reports, the fire may have been caused by the use of pyrotechnic devices, MIA added.
