The conditions for hiking in the mountains are poor, the weather is cloudy and foggy, reported the Mountain Rescue Service (MRS) of the Bulgarian Red Cross on Sunday.

There is snowfall above an altitude of 1,700m and a fresh snow cover of about 10cm at 1,800m. The temperatires are expected to drop futher.

There have been no recorded incidents with tourists over the past 24 hours.

Precipitation will subside first in the northwest, then in the southern regions, the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology said. Over the northwestern half of the country, the cloud cover will break, and over the rest of the country it will remain significant. The wind will be oriented from the west-northwest and will be moderate, temporarily strong in Northern Bulgaria. Highs: 4-9C, 4C in Sofia.
